Yogurt Granola Parfait

Here’s another quick, easy, protein rich breakfast or post-workout snack! I definitely don’t like to mess around during the weekdays. I like quick nutrient dense options that covers all my bases. Fueling your body properly should be simple, easy and tasty, especially first thing in the morning.

The “why” behind the ingredients:

Yogurt: Yogurt is an awesome way to get protein and probiotics. Probiotics help facilitate digestion and reduce bloating. If you are vegan we love Siggi's coconut based yogurt. If you are sensitive to dairy but are wanting to incorporate it more, opt for A2 cows milk or goats milk yogurt, they can be easier on the gut. Look at the labels and opt for yogurts that are higher in protein and fat than sugar. We should aim for 0.8 to 1.0 g of protein per kg of body weight, more if you are training. (1 kg = 2.2 pounds). For example, if you weigh 140 lbs you should aim for 50-60 grams of protein/day.

Granola: A healthy combo of carbs and fat that helps keep you full throughout the morning. Make your own or grab some from your favorite health foods store. Look for brands that use slower digesting sugars like coconut sugar, maple syrup or honey to avoid blood sugar spikes and limit inflammation. Also look for brands that incorporate nuts and seeds in addition to the oats or grains they are using. If you are sensitive to gluten, there are a ton of gluten free brands.
